ENGL 0900 - Essential Reading and Writing Strategies 4 Credit(s) 4 credits lecture/0 credits lab
This course provides the integrated strategies, skills, and applications of reading and writing necessary for success in technical and general education courses. By covering the shared features of the reading and writing processes and how to identify main ideas, organizational patterns, and supporting details, the course will practice how to read and respond to texts and specific writing and rhetorical situations found in college courses. Topics covered include all stages of the reading and writing processes; audience awareness; mastering new vocabulary through study of word parts, context clues, and the dictionary; recognizing and applying the conventions of Standard English; writing a thesis statement; organizing a first draft; developing support for the main idea; and composing a short essay.
Course Prerequisite(s): Accuplacer Reading score of 215
