COTA 1280 - Mental Health and Wellness Practice


4 Credit(s) 3 credits lecture/1 credit lab

This client-centered, occupation-based course focuses on all aspects of the occupational therapy (OT) process as it pertains to individual and societal mental health and wellness. This includes therapeutic use of self, trauma-informed care, disease prevention, and disease management. Emphasis is on the role of the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA), service delivery models, frames of reference, evidence-based practice (EBP), and documentation within this area of practice. During labs, the focus is on skills related to assessment outcomes, development and implementation of intervention techniques using creativity and clinical reasoning skills to meet client outcomes. Student self-reflection and self-assessment of skills will be applied to course content.
