BHHS 1020 - Physical/Developmental Supports I

This course compares and contrasts the community support models to former medical model. This course will guide the students in obtaining skills on how to support persons with various disabilities and explore augmentative and communication systems. This course will address specific support issues including common signs and symptoms of health concerns, standard precautions and blood borne pathogens, appropriate responses to emergency situations, basic medication concerns, and documentation techniques. In addition, students will learn about communication methods, relationship and sexuality issues, inclusion issues, and community resources for the individuals they will support.
