Construction Estimating Technician Diploma

Program Information

The Anoka Technical College Construction Estimating Technician is a 46-credit diploma program that consists of technical courses designed to develop skills relating to the field of construction cost estimating, quantity surveying and building materials. In addition to estimating skills, the student receives training in related areas such as plan reading, residential/commercial construction, specifications, construction scheduling and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and Revit software.

To further enhance students’ Construction Estimating skills, they will receive training in related areas, such as building codes and building mechanical and electrical systems, as well as emerging technologies in energy-efficient design. Students receive hands-on training in industry standard computer-aided drafting software (AutoCAD), building information modeling (BIM) technology, project coordination software like BluBeam, and insurance estimating software likeXactimate. Scanning to point cloud and 3D modeling from drone survey data will also be demonstrated.

Industry and Career Outlook

Graduates of the Construction Estimating certificate program learn skills and technology that can be applied to a wide variety of careers in the construction industry including, but not limited to, an architectural, electrical, mechanical, structural or civil engineering firm. Construction subcontractors, lumber suppliers, home improvement centers, as well as residential builders and construction material suppliers are all possible employers. Quantifying utility and infrastructure design elements is another area for this certificate.

Graduation Requirements

All Anoka Technical College students seeking an Associate in Applied Science (AAS), diploma, or certificate must meet the cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher.
