HITM 1244 - Law and Ethics

This course will focus on the application of ethical and legal principles and standards pertaining to health information management. Topics of study will include: the application of ethical principles; legal issues pertaining to the confidentiality aspect of health information management; regulatory agencies and laws; privacy standards and rules; and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA)in relationship to health information use and disclosure, and legal aspects of the health record, including documentation/retention requirements from various organizations.
